tell your boss who’s boss
I think it is completely un-natural to work for anybody. Functioning in a structured system where someone is your “superior” & somehow has the power to dictate what your moves are is ridiculous. At least for me it is.
In nature, there are very few mammals that work in such a structured system. You dont see one elephant telling the other “complete this task and then I will give you your food”. Or a shark relying on another shark for their daily intake. It is by this example that I have concluded that having a “boss” is instinctually abnormal.
This may seem like ideology straight from the mouth of the flower children in the 60’s, trying to stick it to the man. But before you draw your conclusions, consider for a second how many times you have heard “my boss is such a” followed by your 4 letter word of choice. People go to work on a daily basis, performing repetitive tasks, dealing with some asshole who essentially determines when you will be able to put food on your table. It should come as no surprise that the majority of people hate going to work & surrendering to the 9to5.
There are a few things that I have come to realize:
- Never work for anybody, eventually you will come to despise them & the job you are performing. What once was a passion, will eventually turn into work.
- Dont rely on someone else’s discretion in order to collect a paycheck. I will insert an overused adage here but I think it is appropriate- opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Just because your “boss” earns a bigger paycheck, doesn’t make his opinion greater than yours.
- Finally & most importantly; if you hate your job or feel like a cookie being shoved around on a conveyor belt everyday, give it up. Whatever it is that you do while procrastinating at work, make that your job.
Now, to take my own advice & apply it.
